NYC Mask Mandates Remain for Ground Transportation
New York City has rolled back most of the city’s indoor mask policies. With new vaccination policies in place, about 70% of Americans have stopped wearing masks entirely. However, masks are still required in some areas throughout NYC.
While airlines have eased back on mask policies, masks are still required for ground transportation including subways, buses, taxis, and rideshare services. These guidelines come from both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Taxi & Limousine Commission (which oversees rideshare and shuttle services in New York).
However, despite an April 18 ruling, masks will still be required on public transportation in NYC. The recent ruling overturned a mask mandate extension to allow for more case studies. However, local authorities in New York City continue to push for mask mandates.
The MTA will continue to follow all mask mandates for the New York subway system. The NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission also announced they will continue mask mandates for taxicabs, for-hire vehicles, and commuter vans in the city.
